PTSD Aw – Accessing further support

There are times for all of us when it helps to have some assistance.

Consider accessing additional support if:

  • Thoughts, feelings or reactions are severe and difficult or intrusive to manage.
  • If seems too hard to share the difficult thoughts, feelings and reactions with another person or there is no one to talk to.
  • Symptoms are not reducing or may be getting worse.
  • There is a sense of despair and possible danger of harm to self or others.

Types of help

There are many different sources of professional help available. If you find yourself struggling, then do reach out for support.

Types of assistance to consider:
  • Additional services your organisation may provide e.g. Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), counselling, occupational health, HR.
  • GP
  • Accident & Emergency
  • Police (for extreme high-risk cases)
  • Mental health professional (e.g. counselling, psychotherapy)
  • Health professional
  • Free local support services. In the UK examples include:
    • Samaritans, available 24/7 (Call 116 123)
    • MIND, available 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday (Call 0300 123 3393)
