Always consider:
SAFETY: Whether you have concerns that the person is at risk of harming themselves or another person.
INTENSITY: Whether a person is finding the intensity of symptoms too difficult to self-manage.
DURATION: Whether the symptoms a person is experiencing do not seem to reduce but are persistent
When to seek professional help
- If, you are finding it difficult to manage any of the reactions you are experiencing
- If, you do not have someone to share your thoughts, feelings and experience with and you think this would be helpful
- If you feel despair or have thoughts of harming yourself
- If you have any concerns about how you, or the people around you, are reacting
- If you don’t feel that you have improved over a month
Types of professional help & support services you may be able to access:
- GP
- EAP general counselling service
- Other mental health professional services (private or NHS via the GP)
- Free services such as the Samaritans (116 123).
Always consider SAFETY, DURATION and INTENSITY
In an emergency, where there is imminent risk of harm to the individual or other people, in the UK always call 999. Emergency Mental Health support is available at certain A&E departments.
